Residential Drawing weekend in Riversdale at Arthur Boyd Education Centre, Bundanon
This drawing weekend is an opportunity to live and draw at Riversdale while immersed in Glenn Murcutt’s architecture. Living on site and early morning movement sessions will relax our bodies, engage our senses and develop what philosopher Merleau-Ponty calls incarnated perception. Using charcoal, ink and pen we will explore how it changes the way we see and becomes visible in our drawings. This practice is useful for beginners as well as experienced artists.
We will be exploring the art of Touching and being Touched through Drawing.
Drawing and sketching allows us to spend time, to get in touch with what we are looking at. Touch is “the mother of all the senses”, and the foundation of experiencing architecture. Touch is life enhancing. Our skin touches and is being touched through contact. Skin is the oldest and most sensitive of our organs, our first medium of communication and all our senses are extensions of the sense of touch.
…hand touching buildings, paper, pen – feet touching the ground – sun, shadows, wind touching landscape, touching buildings, touching us – seeing as touching – sound, smell, taste touching skin – air touching lungs – silence touching flesh – melting, releasing, connecting with the breath of nature, opening our eyes, awakening the sense of wonder, allowing to rest in the mystery of not knowing, tuning and nurturing our creativity
